Frequently Asked Questions
1) How do I get the most shaped cherry tomatoes and get the best results?
Allow the tomato with the Snap ‘n ShapeTM already on it to grow and fill out the shaper. Once you see the tomato pressing up against the insides of the shaper forming the desired heart shape, we recommend you do one of the following:
- Remove the shaper and leave the shaped tomato to ripen on the plant. Place the shaper on another green young tomato to shape. In most cases the tomato has completed 90% or more of its growth and should hold its shape while it is ripening. Place the shaper on another green young tomato.
OR
- Remove the shaper from around the tomato and remove the shaped tomato from the plant. Store the shaped green tomato in a cool, dry, dark place to encourage ripening and protect it for the elements…just like you would for a larger green tomato. Place the shaper on another green young tomato.
2) How many tomatoes can one Snap ‘n ShapeTM shape?
Depending how long you keep the shaper on the cherry tomatoes you can usually expect to shape up to 5 tomatoes per shaper per season. On average a young green tomato will fill out a shaper within 7-10 days.
3) Can I shape other vegetables with Snap ‘n ShapesTM?
Yes, but they will of course do best with naturally smaller vegetables approximately 1” in size including cherry peppers. Snap ‘n ShapeTM is specifically designed and sized with the cherry tomato in mind. But have fun with it and use your imagination!
4) Are they re-usable?
Yes.
5) Should I clean them between uses?
Yes.
6) When I tried to snap on the Snap ‘n ShapeTM the tomato stem broke and the tomato fell off. Is the device too heavy?
No. Most likely when you were trying to snap it around the tomato or when you slid the clip on you pulled down on the tomato not realizing it, and caused it to break. Just snap it on to another young cherry tomato. There’s usually lots of them on a plant.
7) Some cherry tomatoes don’t appear to get big enough to be shaped.
As a grower you know that there are many factors that can go into how big a vegetable grows. One cherry tomato on the same plant can be a different size than another on the same fruit stem. We recommend selecting the tomatoes from the middle of the stem to put Snap ‘n ShapeTM on.
8) Will my Snap‘n ShapeTM fill up with water if it gets rained on?
No. At the bottom of the Snap ‘n Shape is a drainage hole to allow water to escape. Some condensation is normal from time to time but will usually evaporate through the drainage or stem holes.
